Matthew (“Matt”) Shoemaker joined Jones Cork, LLP in September of 2017 after practicing for five years in Atlanta with Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers, LLP. Mr. Shoemaker focuses his practice on general civil litigation, and has experience representing both individuals and businesses in a broad range of disputes. His experience spans state and federal practice, as well as appellate work.
Mr. Shoemaker graduated with a degree in History from the University of Georgia in 2007. Mr. Shoemaker then received his J.D. from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in 2012, graduating magna cum laude. While in law school, Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the Mercer Law Review and served as the Georgia Survey Editor. Mr. Shoemaker was also a member of the Mercer Advocacy Counsel and competed in Moot Court, where he was part of the team that placed first at the 2011 Herbert Wechsler National Criminal Moot Court Competition. Upon graduation, Mr. Shoemaker received the Moot Court Award and was inducted into the Brainerd Currie Honor Society.
Mr. Shoemaker is originally from Carnesville, Georgia. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Bowen, son, Phillips, and daughter, Elizabeth Allan, and watching any sporting event involving the University of Georgia. Mr. Shoemaker is also actively involved in the community, including participation in the Leadership Macon Class of 2020 and current service on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Central Georgia and Middle Georgia Justice and on the Staff Parish Relations Committee at Vineville United Methodist Church.
